The word “EBOLA” is not new especially to Nigerians and citizens of other African countries. In a space of about 3weeks in 2014, Ebola became as popular as the president. Some people even wished they were ebola. There was a joke that HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) met with ebola virus and was claiming to be the greatest killer and most popular organism. Ebola was angry and told HIV to keep quiet, saying that HIV kills slowly and his popularity was gained over years. So a great quarrel broke between the two and ebola promised HIV that in 3 weeks he will surpass his popularity and wickedness. And then came the ebola outbreak and true to his words, ebola became more virulent and popular than HIV.

Jokes apart, the ebola outbreak was a terrible experience. The world was turned apart in just 3weeks by an 808mm filovirus. Great fear was in the air. Ebola made headlines in radio and televisions stations all over the world. Many lives were lost in Nigeria, Liberia and other parts of the world. New dressing patterns and behaviors emerged all in a bid to avoid ebola. Some people wore overall clothes, stockings and hand gloves with hair tied and only the eyes can be seen.  Handshakes became forbidden and then came ‘ebola greeting’ where greetings where exchanged in a distance. Hand sanitizers sold like never before. Husbands were even afraid to touch the wives. Church attendance reduced as people avoided crowd and contact. Even pastors and churches were not left out as bare laying of hands on the sick seized, microphones were sanitized and songs like “my hands are blessed×2 anyone I touch surely must be blessed” was unacceptable or caused commotions when sang.  Fear was not just in the air but in people’s minds and heart as people were afraid of dying. Hands had to be washed before accessing public facilities like schools, banks, libraries, churches etc. the internet and social media were hot and busy posting pictures and recent developments. The ‘salt sager’ was another disaster and distraction; as some chap rumored that salt was a cure. Some people drank salt raw, some mixed it with water and others also bathed with it for better efficacy. Parents where calling their children pleading with them to drink and bath with salt because of the love they had for them. This escalated the situation with hypertensives at the receiving end; as many died and others with exacerbated symptoms. Mr. John was not left out as he was told that ebola can be contacted through beans- his favourite meal. To try it out he told his wife to prepare beans and he first gave it to his dog. After one hour he checked on the dog and it was still alive and active. He then went ahead to eat his beans only to hear 30mins later that his dog was dead and the corpse was brought to him. In fear that he had just one hour to live Mr John started confessing his sins and drank almost a gallon of palm oil to prevent death. Suddenly he heard a knock on his door and it was his gate man who dragged in the Gardner who confessed to have killed the dog to make him afraid. On hearing this Mr John collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The fear of ebola almost claimed his life.

Putting into consideration the great fear, tribulation and trouble caused by a little ebola, I wonder what will happen after the rapture of the saints and on the judgment day. If people could do all these because of ebola, what will happen on the last day? A greater hostility, damnation, persecution, trouble and agony are coming soon. It will be for those who will miss the rapture of the saints. The bible says “And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains and said to the mountain, fall on us and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne and from the wrath of the lamb; for the great day of His wrath has come and who is able to stand?” (Rev 6: 15-17). A much more terrible day is coming- the judgment day. Have you made peace with the Lord by giving your life to Jesus? The Ebola outbreak was for a time and preventive measures where successful but who will save you on the judgment day. What is preventing you from giving your life to Jesus? Jesus is calling you today. It is not His will that any one should perish but that all should come to repentance (2nd Peter3:9b).  The bible says “that day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of devastation and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thicker darkness” (Zaph 1: 15).Jesus further exclaimed in Revelation16: 15 “Behold I am coming as a thief, blessed is he who watches and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame”. As a Christian are you watching or you have been carried away by the world and its passing glory and pleasures?

The world health organization (WHO), federal government, NGO’s, international communities etc all responded to cub the ebola outbreak and its impending doom, but no one will respond on the judgment day. If ebola could cause so much trouble, then what will happen on the judgment day can only be better imagined and not experienced. Today grace is still abounding to us all to have free and limitless access to salvation in Christ Jesus, but your grace will expire when you cross the Rubicon (the place of no return) either by death or missing rapture.  Then the curtain of grace will be closed and men will have to pay for their salvation with their own blood. Today His mercy still echoes and grace still abound. Why not use the opportunity. Jesus is saying “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come to him and dine with him and him with Me” (Rev3:20).

If you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour say this prayer “Lord Jesus have mercy upon me and forgive me of my sins, wash me clean with your blood, wipe my name out from the book of death and write my name in the book of life, I believe that you died for me and I accept you today as my Lord and personal Saviour, thank you for saving me, in Jesus name”. If you prayed this prayer you are now saved. Look for a bible believing church and be dedicated to even as you grow in faith. God bless you.
